The Curse, written by Lee Su Ann. The main story is about the mystery death of Madhuri and the main character , Azreen to find the murderer of her sister, Madhuri. Azreen was studying in London when she got the news that her sister's death. She quickly come back to Langkawi, Malaysia to attend the sister's funeral. Some villagers are gossiping about her sister's death and one of them, Puan Normala, said that she saw Madhuri has blood in white. Villagers blamed Azreen for bringing the Old Lady, who they named her witch, into the town. And they said it was Azreen's fault to bring the curse to the village and all of them had been cursed. Old lady told Azreen that Madhuri's death was not an accident, Madhuri actually was murdered. Lastly, she discovered that her sister's death was an accident. Pak Saleh, Azreen's father accidentally killed Madhuri when he found Madhuri and Asraf was dating in the rubber estate, the latex then accidentally poured on Madhuri. Hence, the 'white blood' saw by Puan Normala was the latex. At the end, Saleh died in heart attack, Old lady died in a fire started by Asraf, and Azreen's mother died in illness. Azreen went back to London to continue her study.
The character that I found most interesting in this novel is the main character, Azreen.
She is very brave. She dares to talk to Old Lady whom villagers called her as an scary witch. She then become a friend of the Old Lady.
She is independent. She can study in London alone without any siblings' accompany. She can find her way to London by her own.
Azreen is a girl with some boy properties on her. She just can't be soft, pretty and polite like other girls do, especially her elder sister, Madhuri. Her tomboy-ish properties always get her in trouble when she was in school.
Azreen is a loyal friend. She could help anything her friends needed. For example, Mohd Asraf. Azreen saved Asraf from the farm and from being scolded by the farmer owner.
The last point that I found the character, Azreen is very interesting was Azreen spokes her mind.
